Virginia Elizabeth (Curley) Quinn

Virginia C. Quinn, a native of Ilion, New York, and seventy-year resident of Norwich, New York, died peacefully early Sunday, August 9, 2026, at home of natural causes. She was less than two months shy of her 97th birthday.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael John of Rockville, MD, and Matthew Sean, of Rye Brook, NY; their spouses, Jeanne A. Quinn and Virginia L. Quinn; five grandchildren, Christopher (with wife, Lisa) and Kyleigh Quinn of Maryland, and Bridget, Nora and Declan Quinn of New York, as well as two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Josie Quinn of Maryland. She had many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews that survive as well.

Born October 7, 1929, in Ilion, New York, she was the only child of John Francis and Ethel Elizabeth (Rogers) Curley. Virginia grew up in Ilion and attended local schools, graduating from Ilion High School in 1947, and eventually attending Utica College. Before marriage, Virginia worked for the president’s office of Colgate University. Following the loss of her father in 1952, she joined General Electric in Utica, and while there, met fellow employee, Joseph Quinn, through friends. They married on August 25, 1956, and soon moved to Norwich, New York, where he began a job with the Norwich Pharmacal Company as director of publications.

They enjoyed a rich family and community life over the next 50 years, raising their two sons, Michael and Matthew, who both graduated from St. Paul’s School and Norwich High School. A devoted and loving wife, Virginia supported Joseph’s career across various daily newspapers before he joined the journalism faculty at Morrisville State College. Virginia was a force at home and active in community affairs, especially the Mothers’ Club at St. Paul’s School, where she served a term as president. She loved people and made new friends all the time while cherishing her lasting ones.

For several years, Virginia returned to work and enjoyed serving on the staff of the Chenango County Board of Supervisors, where she made even more friends. For more than a decade, Virginia wintered in Rockville, Maryland with son, Michael, and made many new dear friends there as well. She loved watching tennis and baseball, swimming, and playing a sharp game of Scrabble. Her wit and wry humor was endearing and survives in our hearts. Deeply religious, she watched a Mass every day, prayed the Rosary, and always had love in her heart.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, beginning with the Rosary at 8:30 a.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home, 68 South Broad Street, Norwich, with an early calling hour from 9:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m. The family will then begin a procession to St. Paul’s Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be conducted at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow for family and friends at the Canasawacta Country Club. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Herkimer, NY at 3:00 p.m. Friends are welcome at any of the events, the calling hour from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home, her funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, or her burial later that day.
