Timothy M. “Tim” Ashton, 66, of Norwich, died unexpectedly on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Born on May 20, 1960, in Buffalo, NY, Tim was a son of the late Louis and Shirley (Wightman) Ashton. He grew up in Norwich and graduated from Norwich High School in 1979. Tim enlisted in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1984. Tim later attended both Morrisville College and Mohawk Valley Community College where he gained a bachelor’s degree. Upon returning to Norwich, Tim worked at Shop Vac, in Norwich, at Chenango Valley Technologies, in Sherburne, and finally at D.C.M.O. BOCES in Norwich for 19 years as the director of operations and maintenance until his retirement in 2021.
Tim enjoyed traveling, spending time on the beach, going to concerts, and was an avid golfer. Any day he could be found often at Knickerbocker Golf Course. In retirement, Tim found various projects at his home to keep him busy. Tim always made time for his family. He coached YMCA soccer, Chenango Chargers Soccer, Little League baseball, was a member of the Norwich Football Boosters, Norwich Track and Field Boosters, and the equipment manager for Norwich Cyclones. Tim was also a huge Binghamton Black Bears hockey fan and was a member of their booster club.
On May 26, 1984, in Sherburne, NY, Tim married Cynthia “Cindy” Disbrow.
In addition to his wife, Cindy Ashton, of Norwich, Tim is survived by his two sons, Joshua Ashton, of Norwich, and Nate (Megan) Wagner-Ashton, of San Diego, CA; siblings, Rick (Patty) Ashton, of Saranac Lake, Larry Ashton, of Plymouth, John Ashton, of Beaver Meadow, NY, Betty (Les) Bronson, of Nicholson, PA, Earl (Holly) Ashton, of Mosinee, WI, Joann (John) Money, of Greene, NY, and Becky (Tim) Roberts, of Norwich; brother-in-law, Greg (Shelia) Disbrow, of Penn Yan, NY; many nieces and nephews; and several cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Ian Patrick Ashton.

Friends and family are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home, in Norwich, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. In Tim’s honor, we encourage all to wear their most colorful golf polo or orange as it was his favorite color.
