Shelvy J. Schraft

Shelvy Schraft, 83, a lifelong Norwich resident passed away at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford, NY on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

Born in Norwich on October 12, 1941, she was a daughter of Kenneth and Ava (Yeomans) Brooker. She graduated from Norwich High School and worked her adult life in the Norwich Middle School cafeteria until her retirement. 

Shelvy was married to Ernie Schraft for 62 years until he predeceased her on November 18, 2023. She is survived by her children, Ernest (Lisa) Schraft, Jr., and Catherine (Wayne) Carpenter; grandchildren, Kristin, Stephanie, Zachary, Cody, and Stacey; great-grandchildren, Deacon, Brayliana, David, Aydrielle, Carter, Ivan, and Aiden; brother, Ron (Emily)Brooker; sister-in-law, Carol Spalluto and Elizabeth Davis; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; son, William Eric Schraft; brother, Kenneth Brooker; and sisters, Shirley Whaley and Judy Brooker.

A private burial service will occur in Mt. Hope Cemetery. 

Special gratitude is given to the wonderful staff at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford, who took care of Shelvy in the past two years. She loved you all and her family is very grateful to you for your wonderful service to her. 

Funeral arrangements were entrusted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
