Phyllis Cramer

June 14, 1931 — December 8, 2014

Phyllis J. Cramer, 83, formerly of Norwich, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, December 8, 2014 at her apartment in Jordan, NY.

Born June 14, 1931 in Waterville, NY, Phyllis was the daughter of Albert L. and Alice (Thayer) Ramsdell. She was a 1951 graduate of Waterville High School and received a degree from the Utica Beauty Culture School. Phyllis went on to work at Nellie’s Beauty Shop on North Broad Street in Norwich.

On May 20, 1954, in Waterville, Phyllis married Bruce J. Cramer, who died on October 27, 2011. She dedicated her life to raising her family and provided daycare for many children though the years. Later, Phyllis worked at the U-Pump-Em gas station, owned by Victory Markets, on East Main Street.

Phyllis was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church and of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed designing and knitting sweaters, had a passion for baking, gardening and volunteering at the church. While in Jordan, she loved to go for “walks” (riding her scooter) as it gave her a new level of mobile independence.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Cynthia and Donald Meixner, of Jordan and Donna Deuel (Tom Pratt), of Cazenovia; her son, Steven Cramer and his wife, Vickie, of Taylorsville, NC; her nine grandchildren, Rebekkah Meixner (Michael Hanks), Geoffrey and Gregory Meixner, Michael (Becky), Joshua (Jenna) and Jennifer Deuel (Ian Marshall), Daron, Devon and Darek Cramer; six great grandchildren, Kristopher, Elora, Jameson, Emmett, Bryson and Gretchen as well as her sister, Muriel Burnham, of North Brookfield, NY. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Phyllis was predeceased by her brother, Warren Ramsdell of Poolville.

A memorial service for Phyllis will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, December 12, 2014 at the Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Hale, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
