Peggy J. McKenna, 69, of Norwich, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Born on March 16, 1957 in Carthage, NY, Peggy was a daughter of the late Morris and Marion (Christman) Crump. She grew up in Carthage and graduated high school in 1975. Following her graduation, Peggy attended Valley Forge Christian College where she earned a degree in education. After raising her two children, Peggy ran a daycare for many years, caring for many families. Later in life she was blessed with watching her own grandchildren, something she and her grandchildren will always cherish. Peggy also worked at the Norwich Family YMCA for many years at the front desk helping all who entered. Most recently, Peggy worked as a full-time substitute teacher in the Norwich City School District.
In 1993, Peggy and her family moved to Norwich where her husband was the minister at the Assembly of God Church on Silver Street. Peggy has a strong faith in Jesus and the Bible. She enjoyed sharing scripture and played the piano at church. Peggy was also a worship leader and a licensed minister for the Assembly of God. Her caring spirit and kindness touched countless lives in this community and beyond. Most recently, Peggy attended church at the Calvary’s Love Church in Johnson City, NY.
Outside of church, Peggy enjoyed camping, baking, flower gardening, traveling, was an amazing cook and loved to spoil her family. She always cared for those in need and continuously made time for those around her – especially the kids in school who needed her most. Peggy was a friend to all who were blessed enough to know her and once you met her, you were a friend for life.
On January 17, 1976, Peggy married Dennis McKenna in Carthage, NY. Together, they shared 50 years of marriage – a strong bond that inspired those around them.
In addition to her loving husband, Peggy is survived by her children, Jamie (Scott) Brown, of Norwich, and Jeremy McKenna, of Norwich; grandchildren, Caitlyn (Tristan) Rifanburg, of Norwich, Christopher Brown (Amber Wilson), of Dallas, TX, and Andrew Brown (Abby Flynn), of Norwich; great grandchildren, Hadley Rifanburg and Remi Rifanburg, both of Norwich; brother, Peter (Felicia) Crump, of Carthage, NY, sister, Linda Butts, of Florida; several brother and sister-in-law’s; and many nieces and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by her siblings, Judy Marolf, Kay Scee, and Edward Scee.
Friends and family at invited to calling hours to be held at the Wilson Funeral Home, 68 South Broad Street, Norwich on Friday, April 3, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Additionally, friends and family are welcomed to call at City Church, 97 Silver Street, Norwich, on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4. 2026, at the City Church, 97 Silver Street, Norwich, where Rev. Jerry Terry will officiate. Burial will take place on Monday, April 6, 2026 at Fairview Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. in Carthage, NY.
In honor of Peggy’s spirit for inspiring students, a scholarship fund in her memory is being established. Contributions may be mailed to the Wilson Funeral Home, c/o Peggy J. McKenna Memorial Scholarship, 68 South Broad Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
