Paul V. Nelson

Paul V. Nelson, 82, of Norwich, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY with family by his side.

Born on December 19, 1943, in Ithaca, NY, Paul was the son of the late Nels and Mary (Locicero) Nelson. He graduated from Dryden High School. Paul served in the United States Army from 1968-1970. He attended Ithaca College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting. During his life, Paul worked at Babcock Poultry, Tompkins Cortland Community College, Empire Livestock, and I.L. Richer in various accounting and finance positions. In his retirement, Paul kept busy as a self-employed accountant.

Paul could often be found on a golf course – something he thoroughly enjoyed. He also had a joy for Sci-Fi programs which he shared with his daughter Tamara. He donated yearly to Stanford J. Gibson School for families in need during the holiday season and for the backpack program. During Covid, he went as far as to pay for groceries for strangers. He was a kind and generous person who always put others before himself.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Della (Ike) Nelson, of Norwich; daughter, Tamara (Tony) Caputo, of Connecticut; step-children, Jeffrey (Rae) Jacklin, of Norwich, and Lori Cooper, of Norwich; grandchildren, Heather, Kameron (Victoria), Raymond, Kaylee (Don) Courtney (David) and Ryan; great grandchildren, Sebastian and Madison; and bonus family, Joe Cooper and Kamil Alexander.

A celebration of life will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Calvary Dr, Norwich, NY 13815, on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions in memory of Paul may be made to the Bandera Family and Community Alliance, 4955 Howlett Hill Road, Marcellus, NY 13108. This organization offers free Christmas dinners for those in need.
