Patricia A. VanHoover

Patricia A. “Pat” VanHoover, 79, of Amherst, NY, died on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at the Millard Fillmore Hospital in Williamsville, NY following a brief illness.

Pat was born on April 18, 1947, in Norwich, a daughter of the late Frank A. “King Kong” and Barbara (McGraw) Mirabito. Pat grew up in Norwich and graduated from Norwich High School in 1965. She then attended Broome Technical College and Harper College where she earned her laboratory technician degree. Following her education, Pat worked for Dr. Primitivo Cruz at the Chenango Memorial Hospital laboratory before starting her forty-year career at SUNY Upstate Medical University as a lab tech. She also worked for private medical practice before she officially retired.

In 1976, Pat married Donald A. Young, who predeceased her on March 4, 1991. In 1995, Pat married Marvin “Marv” VanHoover, who survives.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, walking, and was an avid NY Yankees fan. In 2016, Pat and Marv relocated to Amherst, NY.

In addition to her husband, Marvin, she is survived by her sons, Joel Chiotti, of California, Raymond (Ann) Young, of Buffalo, NY; step-children, Ryan (Stephanie) VanHoover, of Syracuse, NY, and Andy VanHoover, of Spring Hill, FL, Kara (Joel) Young, and Tina (Vern) Robinson; grandchildren, Pemberley Rose Young, Abigail Rae Young, Lily Grace VanHoover; siblings, Frank and Janet Mirabito, of Victor, NY, Barbara and Philip McGuire, of South Carolina, Susan Ziesche, of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Jane Barrows, of Norwich, Diane and John Hust, of Rochester, NY, Dennis Mirabito, of Norwich, Kathleen and Edward Coates, of Guilford, NY, Kenneth and Lisa Mirabito, of Norwich, Judith Witte, of Henrietta, NY, Elizabeth Mirabito, of Norwich, Laurie and Antulio Echevarria, of Carlisle, PA, and Timothy and Pamela Mirabito, of Norwich; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and first husband, Pat was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Nancy Mirabito and brother-in-law, David Barrows.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Church of St. Bartholomew. Burial will be held privately at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
