Mark R. Buckley

Mark Robert Buckley (February 28, 1947 - January 1, 2025) passed away, surrounded by his loved ones, at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, NY, early New Year's Day after a short but brave battle with cancer.

Born and raised in the Adirondacks, Mark graduated from the Town of Webb School in Old Forge and joined the Air Force after graduation. He proudly served his country for twenty-three years and traveled the world. He was stationed in many countries, including Vietnam, Laos, and the Netherlands. While in Europe, Mark traveled extensively. He especially enjoyed Austria, where he visited locations from The Sound of Music. While serving in the Air Force, Mark met Avis Faulstick, and they were married on June 20, 1986.

After his retirement from the Air Force, Mark moved to Norwich and began a career with B.F. Goodrich. He retired from the company (now Unison Industries) after twenty-six years of service. During his time there, Mark made many friends and participated in many events, such as cook-offs, dunk tanks, and was an avid golfer with the company’s team.

Mark was an enthusiastic cabinet maker and carpenter. He loved refinishing furniture and could build anything. Many of his family and friends are proud to own a piece he refinished or built. One of his greatest joys in the last few years was his Etsy shop, where he built miniature dollhouse furniture and took pride in creating custom pieces for his customers. Mark was also adept at electrical work and plumbing. He was indeed a master of his crafts.

Mark enjoyed kayaking and was able to explore many of the local rivers. He was fortunate enough to travel to several national parks in his later years with his wife of thirty-nine years.

The family would like to thank the staff at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta for the care, compassion, and kindness shown to Mark and those who loved him. They especially wish to thank nurses Sean and Krystal, who made Mark's last days as comfortable as possible and showed so much compassion to his family. Mark’s greatest joy was his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His wit, talent, generosity, and kindness will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Avis Buckley, of Norwich, Mark is survived by his children, Martin Buckley, of Geneva, NY, Whitney Wellman (Justin), of Oneonta, NY, and Breanna Buckley, of Hulett, WY; and grandchildren, Brendan Wellman, Ethan Buckley, and Caden Buckley.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2025. Memorial contributions may be made to The Impact Project, 4 Clinton St, Greene, NY 13778.

The Wilson Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
