In Loving Memory of Leon Martin “Beanie” Lamb, Sr.
Leon M. “Beanie” Lamb, 72, of Norwich, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at UHS Wilson Medical Center after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born March 12, 1954, Beanie was the youngest son of the late Lewis and Shirley (Carpenter) Lamb. He grew up on Pigeon Hill in Norwich and graduated from Norwich High School in 1972. In his early life, Beanie worked on a chicken farm, and as a mechanic in downtown Norwich. For twenty-five years, Beanie worked at Simmonds Precision / B.F. Goodrich in Norwich as a mechanical inspector – a career that came naturally. Beanie was highly respected for his skill and ethic; during his accomplished career he created programs that streamlined production, ensured tooling for high-quality parts, and earned him a major award from Rolls-Royce.
Beanie had a lifelong love of fast cars and big engines. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and getting into the mud on his 4-wheeler. Beanie could often be found rebuilding Chevy trucks with his sons. He was also an avid fisherman, and hunter. As a member of the Sons of the American Legion, he played pool as often as he could. His collection of trophies, plaques, and patches is a testament to his talent.
Beanie was an extraordinary man, who met every challenge head-on, with heart, grit, and dignity. To the many people in his life, he was a loyal friend, a stalwart father, an indefatigable brother, and a man respected for his principled character. Friends and family will long remember Beanie for his warmth, quick wit, fast hands, expansive intelligence, and deep love.
Beanie was predeceased by his beloved wife Vicky Lamb; and siblings, Sharon Brooker, Richard Lamb, David Lamb, and Lewis B. Lamb, III. Beanie is survived by his children, Leon Lamb, Jr., Charity Burton, Kim “Buddy” Slater, and Stacy Barrows; siblings, Dale (Donna) Brooker, Jerry (Robbie) Lamb, and James (Kris) Lamb; sister-in-law, Cherry Lamb; brother-in-law, Ed Coles; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Special gratitude is given to his friends, medical caregivers, and professionals that cared for Beanie, including Sarah Criddle, Jason Ripic, the Pool League at the American Legion, the pancreatic cancer team at Upstate Medical Center, UHS Wilson Medical Center, and Life Flight.
To honor Beanie’s wishes, there will be no formal services. A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
