Joan A. Zieno

Joan A. Zieno, 93, a lifelong resident of Norwich, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.

Born on April 26, 1929, Joan was the daughter of Antonio and Catherine (Zaia) Zieno. She attended the Norwich schools and graduated with the Class of 1947. She then attended the Utica School of Commerce. Following her graduation, she was employed at Bennett-Ireland, Inc. for 20 years. In 1970, she began employment at Victory Markets, Inc. where she was employed for 23 years as an executive secretary and retired upon the closure of Victory Markets.

Joan enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a former and charter member of the National Secretaries Association and was a dedicated member of the Church of St. Bartholomew’s.

Joan is survived by her sister, Mary (Zieno) Smith, of Norwich; niece, Agnes (Smith) Eaton, and her husband, Paul, of Norwich; nephew, Casey Slade, of Hollywood, CA; niece, Judy Zieno, of East Lake, OH; grandnephews, Matthew and Connor Eaton; grandniece, Catherine Eaton; several cousins. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Dominic and Ruth Zieno; brother-in-law, Charles A. Smith, Jr.; and grandnephew, Adam Eaton.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joan will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at the Church of St. Bartholomew, where the Rev. Daniel Caughey, will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Contributions in Joan’s memory may be made to Msgr. Festa Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Bartholomew’s Church, 81 E.
