Jean B. Smith

Jean B. Smith, 82, of South Plymouth, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.

Born on February 29, 1936, in Norwich, Jean was the daughter of Jason and Victoria (Bachanas) Belden. After high school, Jean attended Pierce Business School in Philadelphia and then was employed by the Norwich-Eaton Pharmaceutical Company. In 1959, she married Reland Smith. They were married for 58 years prior to Reland’s death on November 14, 2017. Soon after their marriage, they purchased a dairy farm in South Plymouth that continues to operate today by the work of their son, Jeffrey, and grandson, Joseph.

Jean is survived her children Jeffrey (Deanna) Smith, Marie (Dr. Peter) Ward, Christine (Michael) Portelli, and Lisa (Phillip) Proskine; nine grandchildren Marybeth and Susan Ward, Kaitlin Miller, Scott Smith, Joseph Smith, Eric and Michael Portelli, and Ashley and Theron Proskine; six great-grandchildren Joseph Portelli, Gabriella and Gavin Portelli, Callie and Abel James, and Kinsley Smith; and sister Patricia Bartlett-Tretiak. In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by her sister, Kathleen Tamsett.

To honor Jean’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or calling hours.
