Hazel J. Muserilli, of Norwich, 86, passed away on April 4, 2022, the Crouse Community Center, in Morrisville, NY.
Born on August 2, 1935, in Deposit, NY, Hazel was the daughter of Henry and Edna (Burrows) Hafele. She graduated with the Deposit High School Class of 1953. On November, 27, 1954, Hazel married Angelo “Muzzy” Muserilli, who survives. Together they would have and raise five children.
Hazel was a longtime clerk at the NY State Department of Motor Vehicles office located in Norwich, having started her work there in 1966. She retired 25 years later. Hazel was a communicant of St. Bartholomew’s Church, and served as an officer with the Ave Maria Guild. Hazel also played in the Elk’s Lodge Bowling League, was a member of the St. Paul’s Church Mother’s Club, and was active in the Chenango County Democratic Club. Besides devoting herself to the care of her family, Hazel’s lifelong passion was the game of golf, and was a member of the Canasawacta Country Club where she regularly organized the Women’s Member Guest tournament. Hazel was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Gold Star Mothers. She substitute taught in the Norwich Schools for many years and worked gathering resident information for the U.S. Census Bureau. Hazel was well known for her tasty spaghetti and meatball meals, which she offered annually at her home for the Gus Macker set-up crew and prepared for the Norwich High Golf Team.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by her cherished children, Kathleen Perkins, Thomas Muserilli (Suzanne Ogden), and Christine Muserilli (John Kozersky); grandchildren, Jessica (Raquel) Campbell, Deanna (David) Parsons, Rebecca Campbell, Erin Muserilli, Lauren Brunza, Katie Muserilli, Joseph (Katie) Muserilli, and Nicholas (Lisa) Muserilli; great-grandchildren, Avery, Aiden, Andreanna, A’Miyah, Addison, Alexa, Everleigh, Ellowyn, Charles, Henry, and Josephine; great-great grandchild, Isaiah; siblings, Georgia Holdrege, Sally Arcidiacano, and Leanor Kuhn; and daughter-in-law, Jane Muserilli . She was predeceased by her son, Charles Muserilli; daughter, Teresa Brunza; brothers, James, Donald, George, Robert, Richard, and Clarence; sister, Betty Grant; and son-in-law, Max Perkins.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Hazel will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022, at the Church of St. Bartholomew, where the Rev. Ralph A. Bove, pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 7, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Contributions in Hazel’s memory may be made to Norwich High School Golf Boosters, 89 Midland Drive, Norwich, NY 13815.
