Glenda W. Currie

Glenda Williams Currie, 86, passed away on September 10, 2026, in Hamilton, New York. She was born on March 28, 1940, in Ridgely, Tennessee, the daughter of Jasper and Fidelia (Johnson) Williams.

Glenda graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee, beginning a nursing career that was as much a calling as it was a profession. Her naturally caring and nurturing spirit made nursing a perfect fit, and caring for others remained one of the great passions of her life. She spent nearly half of her career at St. Joseph Hospital before moving into private practice, where she worked as a gastrointestinal nurse. She continued the work she loved until her retirement in 2006.

On September 4, 1961, Glenda married Don H. Currie, Sr. Together they shared 49 years of marriage until his death in 2010. Despite the demands of a career she loved, Glenda was a devoted wife and mother who always found time to make holidays and the important moments of childhood special for her sons. Her family remained at the heart of her life.

Glenda’s faith was a cornerstone of her life and a source of strength and comfort throughout the years. She began each morning with her daily devotional, a quiet ritual that reflected the importance of her faith in everyday life. She was a faithful member of Missouri Street Church of Christ and found great joy in volunteering and serving others through her church.

One of Glenda’s favorite ways of staying connected with others was through the greeting cards she faithfully sent for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. Her list of recipients extended well beyond her immediate family. To Glenda, sending a card was more than remembering a date; it was a form of fellowship—a simple but meaningful way to let family and friends know they were remembered and cared for.

No matter how many years passed, Ridgely always remained “home” to Glenda. She treasured the friendships and memories she carried from her school years, particularly those she shared with her Class of 1958 classmates. She especially looked forward to their annual reunions at Boyette’s on Reelfoot Lake. Those friendships, reunions, and memories of home remained dear to her, and she reminisced about them throughout her life.

Glenda is survived by her sons, Don Currie, Jr. (Janna) and Bo Currie (Dusty); her grandson, Bradley (Brooke); her sisters-in-law, Anna Williams and Brenda Currie; her niece, Deanna Williams Bundren; and her nephew, Bud Currie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don H. Currie, Sr.; her parents, Jasper and Fidelia Williams; and her brother, J.C. Williams.

Glenda will make her final journey home, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Don Sr. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Glenda’s name to Crouse Community Center, 101 South Street, Morrisville, NY 13408, in gratitude for the extraordinary care, kindness, and compassion shown to her during her time there.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
