Francis A. Shapley, Sr.

Francis A. Shapley, Sr, 78, of Norwich, died on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford, NY.

Born on May 5, 1947, in Bainbridge, NY, Francis was a son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Wood) Shapley. As a young man he worked for Dean Phillips, the Norwich Shoe Company, and for many years in the Victory Markets warehouse. Following the closure of Victory Markets, he worked at a variety of places including Brightman’s Hardware, Wal-Mart (when it was constructed), Price Chopper, Save-A-Lot, and CountryMax before he retired.

Francis served as parts specialist in the United States Army from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1969.

Francis enjoyed country music, fishing, and football – being a die-hard NY Giants fan. He also loved spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren. Francis was a longtime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Norwich.

On July 2, 1966, in Norwich, Francis married Jeanette Tiffany. They shared 59 years of marriage together.

In addition to his wife, Jeanette Shapley, Francis is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Davis, of Norwich; son, Francis Shapley, Jr., of Coventry; grandchildren, Kailah Davis and Addie (Zach) Habberfield; great grandchildren, Aiden, Aurelia, and Liam; half-brother, Bill (Melissa) Roosea; and brother-in-law’s, Larry Clark and Charlie Curry; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Cindy Shapley; and siblings, Carolyn Clark, Charles Shapley, Betty Curry, Edward Shapley, Ernest Shapley, Bruce Shapley, and Penny Wood.

A funeral service for Francis will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at the Wilson Funeral Home, 68 South Broad Street, Norwich, NY 13815. Burial will take place in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich.

The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation for the exceptional care given to Francis and his family at the Robinson Terrace Nursing Home.
