Eleanor M. Alger, 97, of Norwich, and formerly of Staten Island, NY, died on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born on January 11, 1928, in Staten Island, NY, Eleanor was a daughter of Oscar and Lena Bosch. She graduated from New Dorp High School on Staten Island. After raising her two children, she had a career with Sears as an inventory specialist. Eleanor enjoyed word searches, reading books with animals, feeding the birds, gardening, and enjoyed animals. She was an exceptional at sewing and often made curtains and slip covers. Eleanor loved her family and enjoyed spending time at home with them. In 2020, Eleanor moved to Norwich to be with her daughter.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Barbara Orinski, of Norwich; granddaughter, Regina (Chris) Auble, of Charlotte, NC; step-son, George (Brenda) Alger, Jr., of Texas; and her loving grand dog, Daisy. She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Burns, in 1968; second husband, George Burns, in 1998; son, Richard Burns, in 2011, brother, Emil (Veronica) Bosch; and her sister, Helen (Salvatore “Buster”) Covino.
Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home, in Norwich, on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. with a funeral service to immediately follow. Burial will occur at St. Paul's Cemetery in the spring of 2026.
