Edna M. Cash Crewdson, 88, of Norwich, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Born on January 7, 1938, in Adams Center, NY, Edna was a daughter of the late Ivan and Edna Gertrude (Aldrich) Cash. As a child, Edna’s father was a Baptist minister and often found themselves in towns across New York where he was assigned to preach. She spent a great deal of her childhood in Syracuse and graduated from high school in Syracuse.
On December 27, 1955, Edna married Robert Crewdson, while he was serving in the Air Force. Together, they would travel to Germany, Turkey and across the United States where he was stationed. While in Turkey, Edna worked for the United States government typing top secret codes on one-time pads – the only woman to do this during her time there.
Following her husband’s honorable discharge, the family would continue to move where Bob’s jobs landed him. Eventually, they settled in Massachusetts, where Edna worked as the office manager of a Ford dealership in Lee, MA before taking the position of town clerk of Richmond, MA.
Edna sang in the “Sweet Adelines” in Pittsfield, MA, played violin, piano, and organ, and was an active member of the Richmond Congregational Church in Richmond, MA. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, swimming, collecting train memorabilia, and made countless poppies for her community.
In 2012, she moved to Norwich, to be closer to her family. In 2017, she married Bill Chamberlain, with whom she shared her later years before entering hospice due to illness.
Edna is survived by her husband, Bill, children; Lois (Allan) Strong, of Plymouth, NY, and John Crewdson (Heather Harper), of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Matthew Strong, Carolyn (Michael) O’Reilly, and Sarah (William) Gelatt; great-grandchildren, Giuliana and Liam; brother, Eugene Cash; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband on May 13, 2007, and her siblings, Barbara Ellis and Phyllis Sanborn.
The family is grateful for the support and care given to Edna and her family by the team of Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County.
Memorial contributions in memory of Edna may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 33-39 Court Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
Private services for Edna will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements were entrusted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
