Edith A. Mirabito, 97, of Norwich, NY, died peacefully at her home on Friday, October 20, 2017.

Born November 23, 1919, Edith was the daughter of Salvatore and Rosaria (Vanaria) Taranto. She was born in Brooklyn and moved to Norwich with her family as a young girl. Edie, as she was known by her friends and family, graduated from Norwich High School and the Utica School of Commerce. She worked outside the home until she married. After she began a family, lovingly caring for her parents, her children and later her husband, became her primary focus. Edith was a lifelong member of St. Bartholomew’s Church, and was an active volunteer, most notably for the Garden Club and the American Heart Association.

In addition to her parents, Edith was predeceased by her son, Dr. Anthony J. Mirabito, her husband of 61 years, Anthony T. Mirabito, her brother Dr. Angelo Taranto, and her sisters, Ellen Spano and Virginia Taranto. Edith is survived by her son and daughter-in- law, James and Jill Mirabito, of Norwich, their daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Ryan Scott, of Delmar, NY, and their daughter and her fiancé, Katherine Mirabito and Nath Milburn, of Los Angeles, CA. Several cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews also survive.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Church of the St. Bartholomew, in Norwich, with Rev. Ralph A. Bove, pastor, will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Edith was a lifelong learner and a champion of access to higher education. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a contribution in Edith’s memory to the Dr. Nancy Kleniewski Scholarship Fund, which supports first generation students at SUNY Oneonta who have financial need.
