Carol A. Wagner, 81, of Norwich, died peacefully with her husband at her side at Chase Memorial Nursing Home on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Born on December 23, 1943, in the Bronx, NY, Carol was a daughter of the late Edwin and Alice (McGovern) Denton. Following her high school graduation, Carol worked as a secretary at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey, where she would meet her future husband Joseph “Joe” Wagner. Joe and Carol were married on November 18, 1972, in Harrington Park, NJ.
In the 1970s, Carol and Joe relocated to Norwich. For over two decades, Carol worked for the Norwich High School in the cafeteria system.
In retirement, Carol and Joe enjoyed traveling, including Caribbean cruises. She was a communicant of St. Bartholomew’s Church and volunteered for many years at the Northeast Classic Car Museum. Carol enjoyed taking swim classes at the YMCA, collecting Cherished Teddy Bear figures, and always made time to socialize with friends.
In addition to her husband, Joseph, of Norwich, Carol is survived by her son, Paul (Stefanie) Wagner, of Sidney, NY; and grandchildren, Brooke (BJ) Andrew, Brandyn (Shelby) Wagner, Katherine Wagner, and Nicholas Wagner, and Lucas Wagner. She was predeceased by her brothers, George Denton and Bob Denton.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the care given to Carol during her last few years at Chase Memorial Nursing Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Carol will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Church of St. Bartholomew. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Burial will occur at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the spring of 2026.
Memorial contributions in Carol’s memory may be made to St. Bartholomew’s Church, 30 Pleasant Street, Norwich, NY 13815 or to Northeast Classic Car Museum, 24 Rexford Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Funeral Home.
