Carmela M. “Molly” Gonzalez, 92, of Pleasant Street in Norwich, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2020, at her residence with family by her side.

Born on March 27, 1928, in Norwich, Molly was the daughter of Mariano and Concetta (Spadaro) Quattrocchi. She graduated from Norwich High School, and her employment included service as a telephone operator for C&U Telephone Co. and working for a time at the Chenango County Office of the Aging.

Molly was married to Frank Vischi in 1948 and the couple had two children. Frank passed away in 1961, so in 1963 Molly married Herminio (Armand) Gonzalez with whom she had four children. Herminio died in 1996. A lifelong resident of Norwich, Molly was a volunteer in the school system as well as a devoted member of St. Bartholomew’s Church and the Ave Maria Guild. She took great pleasure with helping at church functions and luncheons. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and many relatives, celebrating holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. Molly enjoyed traveling with her sons to the Turning Stone Casino to play the slots and liked to play bingo all around the Norwich area. Molly and her sisters Josephine and Nancy will forever be known for baking the very best cookies each year, which were shared with family and friends during the holidays.

Molly is survived by her sons Frank Vischi, of South Plymouth, Richard Vischi, of Norwich, Tomas Gonzalez, of Geneva, Esteban (Lisa) Gonzalez, of Baldwinsville, and Diana (Darrin) DeWitt, of Rivervale, NJ; grandchildren, Robert Vischi, Jonathan Vischi, Christian Vischi (Jessica Moquin), Brian Vischi, Michael (Thuyui) Vischi, Joseph (Marilla) Gonzalez, Daniel Gonzalez, Dylan Gonzalez, Madison Gonzalez, Anthony DeWitt, and Thomas DeWitt; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Alexandria, Clark, Emelia, Arianna, Monica, and Aiden; sister, Nancy Hilsinger; niece, Frances Quattrocchi; and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Carlos Gonzalez, sister, Josephine Rudd, as well as her brothers, Michael, John, Carmen, Anthony, and Joseph Quattrocchi.

A private Mass of Christian Burial for Molly will take place at the Church of St. Bartholomew, where the Rev. Ralph A. Bove, pastor, will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday, October 25, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Callers are asked to enter through the side doors of the funeral home. To ensure the safety of all in attendance, please observe appropriate social distancing and sanitary practices, including facial coverings.
