Barbara A. Brown

Barbara A. “Barb” Brown, 89, a resident of Norwich, died on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at UHS Wilson Medical Center.

Barb was born on June 9, 1936, in Norwich, a daughter of the late Leroy and Grace (Doing) Meade. She was a graduate of Norwich High School with the Class of 1954. For many years, Barb worked in the account payable department at Victory Markets and Great American Food Stores until their closure when she became an office clerk for Chenango County until her retirement.

On January 9, 1955, Barbara married Ronald C. “Ron” Brown, in Poughkeepsie, NY. Together, they would have seven children. Ron predeceased Barb on December 23, 2023.

Barb was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Norwich. She enjoyed her weekly trips to Turning Stone Casinos and liked traveling which included wintering in the South. Barb could often be found solving crossword and sudoku puzzles and was sure to read the Globe and Examiner magazines weekly.

Barbara is survived by her children, Tim (Corazon) Brown, of Melbourne, FL, Kim (Kevin) Curnalia, of Norwich, Mark Brown, of Quakertown, PA, Scott (Audra) Brown, of Leominster, MA, and Tom (Linda Makowiecki) Brown, of Churchville, NY; grandchildren, Joseph (Heather) Brown, John (Ricki) Brown, Lindsey (Chris) Wilkinson, Nick (Stephanie) Curnalia, Thomas (Kelsey) Curnalia, Travis Brown, Trevor (Jennifer) Brown, Megan Brown, Nycole (Keith) Hunter, Monyka Brown, Karyn Brown, Alicia Brown, Andrea (Joseph) Amico, Taylor Meade Brown, Gary Easler, Sarah (Casey) Love, Audra (Jeff) Kelley, Michael Brown, Ryan Brown, Bethany Brown, and Kathryn Mondore; son-in-law, Steve Rumsey; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased in death by her son, Terry, in 1996; daughter, Tammy Rumsey, in 2025; sister, Dorothy Lewicki; and great-granddaughter, Charlotte Curnalia.

A private service for Barbara with her daughter, Tammy, will be held in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
