Tharon Smith

Tharon T. Smith, 86, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the​ VA Medical Center in Syracuse.

Born June 4, 1929, in Corning, Tharon was the daughter of Theodore Z. and Leona (Buck) Smith. She graduated from Addison High School in 1947, then received her nursing degree. She worked at the Arnot-Ogden Hospital for a few years before her service in the Vietnam War. Tharon served in Vietnam as a combat flight nurse for the United State Air Force from 1968-1969. She also worked as a nurse during her career states-side. Tharon was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was also a Member of the Jehovah's Witness (west), and served as a cantor.

Tharon is survived by her brothers Franklin Smith and his wife, Doris, of Norwich, Vaughn Smith and his wife, Mary Lou, of Addison, NY, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Larabe Smith.
