Sheryl A. Foulds

March 6, 1956 — October 19, 2022

Sheryl A. Foulds, 66, of Maydole Street, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at UHS Wilson Medical Center, in Johnson City.

Born on March 6, 1956, in Hancock, NY, Sheryl was the daughter of Charlie and Lowella (Ritchie) Staats. After graduating from Windsor High School, she worked in various places, including the Norwich Shoe Company, McDonald’s, NBT Bank, and the Lt. Warren E. Eaton Airport, each in Norwich. She worked for many years as an office manager for Privat Air at the airport. Sheryl purchased her “Forever Home” on Maydole Street in 1987.

Sheryl was a hard-working single mom starting in 1991. She cherished her children and grandchildren, and was friends with so many. She treated her friends like they were family. Sheryl was known for her sewing crafts, love of horticulture and gardening, famous Christmas cookies (and made boxes and boxes of them annually), and her special Thanksgiving gravy. Her favorite travel destinations were to Daytona, FL and Alexandria Bay, in the Thousand Islands area of New York. Sheryl’s favorite color was yellow, and enjoyed a large cup of black coffee from McDonald’s every day. She also loved to snack on maple walnut ice cream from Byrne Dairy. Sheryl’s favorite Bible verse was the 23rd Psalm.

Sheryl is survived by loving children, Steve (Kelly) Root, of Norwich, Alecia Root, and her companion, Robert, of Johnson City, Daniel Foulds, Adam (Desiree) Foulds, each of Norwich, Katie Bates, of Rochester, and Rebecca Root, of Greene; grandchildren, Cohen, Sidra, Luca, Chance, Aubrey, Michael, Aliya, and Cooper Root, Zoey, Ava, Lucas, and Sammy Foulds, and Blake and Brody Jipson; and siblings, Renwick St. James, Charlie Staats, Jeffrey Staats, and Collin Stewart,. In addition to her parents, Sheryl was predeceased by her son, Joseph Root, and grandson, Steven Root Jr.

A celebration of Sheryl’s life will take place from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at the VFW Post 2782, 61-63 E. Main St., in Norwich. Sheryl’s final wish was for her children to fix up her house and sell it to the next family looking to start their journey in their “Forever Home.” The family will have a donation box at the VFW celebration if anyone wishes to donate. Contributions in Sheryl’s memory may also be made to the Chenango United Way, 83 N. Broad St., Norwich, NY 13815, or to the Danielle House, 160 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY 13905.
