Mary N. Taranto

Mary N. Taranto, 98, formerly of East Main Street, Norwich, NY, and recently of Macungie, PA, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at the Lehigh Commons assisted living center in Macungie.

Born on May 3, 1922, in Norwich, Mary was the daughter of Angelo B. and Anna (Spano) Natoli. She was a 1940 graduate of Norwich High School and began work in her uncle’s grocery store. Mary was later hired in the adjusting department offices of the Norwich Pharmacal Company for several years before she left and began raising her family. She later returned working for the medical offices of Dr. Kochersperger, where Mary retired in 1985.

On August 10, 1946, at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Norwich, Mary married John J. Taranto. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage together before his death on August 12, 2009.

Mary was a faithful member of St. Bartholomew’s Church, in Norwich, where she was a member of the Ave Maria and Rosary Societies. She also volunteered with Ladies of Charity at St. Bartholomew’s Church and the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. In retirement, John and Mary spent winters in Florida and would spend summers in Norwich. In 2001, together they relocated to Macungie, PA to be closer to family.

Mary is survived by her three daughters, their spouses and children, Margaret Kosowsky, of Summerville, SC, and her children, Debra (Thomas) LaBelle, of Crozet, VA, Mary Jane Kosowsky and Kevin (Maribeth) Kosowsky, both of Grasonville, MD; Rosanne and Steven Teders, of Wescosville , PA, and their children, Jessica (Matthew) Knauss, of Macungie, PA, and Rachel Teders, of Wescosville, PA; and Mary Kay (Scott) Derby of Goodyear, AZ, and their children, Claire (Barry) Corner, of Evans City, PA, and Samantha (Kris) Blumbergs, of Clifton Park, NY; nine great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Angelo T. Natoli, Agatino Natoli, John Natoli, and Rose Natoli.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be celebrated at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Norwich, NY, in the spring. Burial will immediately follow at that time at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
