Mary Krug

October 22, 1937 — November 22, 2020

Mary Krug, 83, of Norwich, and formerly of Lake Carmel, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.

Born on October 22, 1937, in Kimle, Hungary, Mary was the daughter of Matthew Vamosi and Rose Stipkovits, and one of their 12 children. After completing high school in Hungary, she married Joseph Krug, on November 26, 1955. While pregnant with her first child, Mary and Joseph emigrated to the United States and settled in the Bronx where they raised their family. In addition to being a devoted mother Mary worked in the money room at Alexander’s Department Store in the Bronx. This helped her and Joseph to realize their dream of building a house in Lake Carmel, NY, where Mary and Joseph retired.

Mary had an overflowing love for her family which only continued to grow as she became a grandmother later in life. She was most joyous when surrounded by family as evidenced by the radiating smile on her face and cheerful, song-filled disposition. Extending past her immediate family, she adored children and babies showing her authentic maternal nature. Mary was loyal and a committed homemaker and provider for her family. She cooked delicious meals and pastries for family, friends, and neighbors. Ask anyone, her strudel was an all-time fan favorite. Along with cooking, Mary enjoyed praying, sewing, making crafts and walking in the fresh air in her free time.

Mary’s husband, Joseph, died on September 28, 2006. The following year she was welcomed with open arms to live with her son, Joseph, and his family. She so very much enjoyed living with her Norwich family including the family pets building a mutually close companionship with Sunshine, Whiskey, and especially Kodi. Mary was a life-long devout Catholic, and was a member of St. Paul’s Church and the local Ave Maria Guild.

Mary is survived by her sons, Joseph, and his wife, Emily, of Norwich, and John, and his wife, Julie, of Matthews, NC; grandchildren, Joseph Krug and Alayna Krug, and her fiancée, Jason King, all of San Francisco, CA, and Elizabeth Krug, of Matthews, NC; and several of Mary’s siblings remaining in Hungary.

A private Mass of Christian Burial for Mary was celebrated at St. Paul’s Church on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, where the Rev. Ralph A. Bove officiated. Burial took place at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the Shriners Hospitals.
