Our mother, Marjorie Thompson, of Norwich, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at the at the age of 95. Born on July 28, 1926, in Massachusetts, Marjorie was the daughter of Ralph and Helen (Veara) Ladner. The family moved to many different areas in Massachusetts and New York due to her father’s career as a farmer. She attended, also many schools in each of these areas. Mom started her career in Norwich as a switchboard operator at the local phone company. Then, one day, a friend named Raymond approached mom and asked her to come and work at Victory Markets as a cashier, which lasted for many, many years. During our school-age years, our mom kept the books at her brother’s business, Bud’s Polkville Tavern. After she finished the bookkeeping there, she headed to the Norwich Junior High School to work in the school cafeteria. Marjorie would come home, meet us after we got off the bus, fix dinner, and off to Mila Fabrics she would go to work in the evening. When mom retired, she started volunteering at the hospital and then on to the Pink Door for over 22 years. Our mom loved gardening, sewing, bowling, and, with her sister, Jeanette, horses and watching birds out the kitchen window. She was a loving mother, whom we will never forget, with a gentle hand and a loving hear
