Larry R. Becker

December 5, 1939 — September 3, 2022

Larry R. Becker, 82, of Norwich, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.

Born on December 5, 1939, in Prattsville, NY, Larry was the son of Olin and Doris (Tompkins) Becker. A Class of 1957 graduate of Gilboa High School, Larry was involved in many activities and sports, including serving as class president in both his junior and senior years and participating in many varsity sports, including basketball, baseball, soccer, cross country, and volleyball.

Larry spent his career working for Victory Markets, retiring in 1995 as the perishable warehouse director. It was at Victory where he met his beloved wife Mary (Williams) Becker. They were married for 47 years before Mary’s passing on October 25, 2010. As a dedicated sports fan, and in addition to following the Yankees and the Jets, Larry was in regular attendance at his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He enjoyed time with friends playing in many local bowling leagues and participating in the occasional poker game. He enjoyed traveling and, in recent years, made many trips to see family around the country with his lifelong friend, Paul Marquit. Larry could also be seen driving around Norwich in his 1967 MGB.

Larry is survived by his three children, Sarah and Michael Stroh, of Norwich, NY; Larry O. and Aimee Becker, of Stamford, CT; and Jolene and Henrik Ross, of Richmond, VT. He will forever be “Poppy” to his seven grandchildren Kristine, Taylor, and Melissa Stroh, Ryan Becker, Noah, Harper, and Reid Ross. He is also survived by his brother Richard Becker, of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Larry was predeceased by his brother, Carl Becker; sister, Virginia Cross; sister, Dolores Becker, who died in her infancy; and daughter-in-law, Cheryl D. Becker.
