Larry N. Kelly, 83, a longtime Norwich resident and former owner of Kelly’s Flower Shop, passed away in the comfort of his home on Saturday, August 28, 2021 with his loving family by his side.
Born on August 23, 1938, in Margaretville, NY, Larry was the son of Nelson and Hazel (Sanford) Kelly. After his completion of high school, Larry relocated to Norwich and started working for Eastern Artificial Breeders. He then took a position as a truck driver for Victory Markets, in Norwich, transporting products across central New York. Throughout the years, Larry also had many side jobs, including being a bus driver and building log cabins with his sons. Larry also founded and owned the Larry Kelly Real Estate agency. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed anything having to do with the outdoors, particularly hunting, cutting firewood, gardening, and horses. He later opened a small convenience store at their residence which later became the Kelly Flower Shop. Larry and Alice managed the store for 36 years. Most of all, he loved his family and cherished his time with them.
On September 26, 1959, Larry married Alice J. (Rettmeier) Kelly, who survives. Together they would have and raise three children, and share nearly 62 years together in marriage.
Larry adored his family. He is survived by his sons, Donald (Jacquelyn) Kelly, of Norwich, and David (Barbara) Kelly, of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Jeremy Kelly, Ryan Kelly, each of South New Berlin, Crystal (Marcus) Haner, of Little Rock, AR, Elisha Kelly, of Rock Hill, SC, Brad Kelly, of Clay, NY, Heather Kelly, Jonathan Kelly, each of Norwich, and Christopher Kelly, of Leland, NC; great-grandchildren, Connor, Pailynn, Carter, Evan, and Brandan; step-grandchildren, Eric (Anna) Blizzard, of Wilmington, NC, and Michelle (Terry) Fisher, of Fountain Inn, SC; and brother, George Kelly, of Greenwich, NY. Larry was predeceased by his son, Douglas, and sister, Annette Iskra.
A private graveside service will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery at a future date. Contributions in Larry’s memory may be made to Hospice of Chenango County, 33-39 Court St., Norwich, NY 13815, or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
