Larry L. Abbott

Larry L. Abbott, 78, a lifelong Norwich resident, died on Saturday, January 13, 2024.


Born on August 23, 1945, in Norwich, Larry was a son of the late LeRoy and Constance (Garrigan) Abbott. He graduated from Norwich High School in 1964 and continued his education at Parson’s College. Growing up in Norwich, he worked at his parents’ business, Abbott’s Flower Shop, at 66 Mitchell Street in Norwich and played in the Norwich Merchant’s Baseball League. After his graduation from college, he worked in New York City for the McDonald’s Corporation for several years before relocating back to Norwich. In Norwich, Larry taught physical education and coached football for South New Berlin Schools and later worked for Procter and Gamble Pharmaceuticals as a purchasing manager. Larry liked to travel and was a huge fan of concerts, especially the Music in the Park Summer Series in Norwich. He was a huge New York Yankees and Syracuse sports fan.


Larry is survived by his five sons, Travis (Kelly) Abbott, of Bellingham, WA, Tim (Jenny) Abbott, of Pittsburgh, PA, Tom Abbott, of Saratoga, NY, Todd Abbott (Nicole Sutton), of Norwich, and Troy Abbott (Joél Eccleston), of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Otis, Oliver, Ella, Katie, Marley, Maddie, Ada, Elias, Dayne, and Juliete; brothers, Gary Abbott, of Norwich and Linn Abbott, of Greenville, SC; and several nieces and nephews.


A burial service will occur in North Norwich Cemetery in the spring of 2024. Memorial contributions in memory of Larry may be made to Chenango Blues Association, 5 South Broad Street, Norwich, NY 13815.


Funeral arrangements were entrusted with the Wilson Funeral Home.
