Joseph J. Mirabito

Joseph J. “Joe” Mirabito, PhD, 75, a native of Norwich, died unexpectedly on Friday, April 24, 2020 at his residence.

Born on May 11, 1944, Joseph was the son of Joseph H. and Catherine (Garito) Mirabito. Joe graduated from Norwich High School in the Class of 1963. He then attended Harper College where he received his Bachelor’s degree in 1968. He later earned a doctorate degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1979. Joe worked as a psychologist including for a time with the Binghamton Psychiatric Center, and also once taught as a professor at the University of New Hampshire.

Joe had a fondness for reading and greatly enjoyed visiting the Guernsey Memorial Library. He traveled the world and told great stories of his adventures in other cultures. Joe will be remembered for his long-distance bicycle and, later, scooters trips across the greater Norwich region.

Burial took place on the morning of Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at St. Paul’s Cemetery, where the Rev. Ralph A. Bove offered committal prayers. A memorial Mass for Joseph will be celebrated at a later date.
