John Rideout

John W. Rideout, 77, of South Otselic, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, February 6, 2019.

Born on July 23, 1941, in Jamaica, Queens, NY, John was the son of William and Katherine (Heitmann) Rideout. After graduating from Greene Central High School, where he participated in football and track, John worked in New York City. Then, in 1963, John served in Vietnam as a member of the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1967, and returned to work in NYC. He returned to the Chenango County area in 1987.

John was an enthusiast of baseball beginning with his following the Brooklyn Dodgers, then the New York Yankees. He also had a lifelong love of classical music.

John is survived by his siblings Mary Anne Soltis, of Johnson City, Peter Rideout, of Portland, OR, Kathleen (Ralph) Castle, of Coventry, David (Pamela) Rideout, of Norwich, Steven (Norma) Rideout, of Odenville, AL, and Paula (Reginald) Stilwell, of Parker, CO. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

A service for John will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at that time at Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, in Greene, NY. There will be no calling hours.
