Joanna M. Chiarino

Joanna M. Chiarino, 86, of Norwich, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022 at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY, following a brief illness.

Born on February 25, 1936, Joanna was the daughter of Juliand and Mary (Aldrich) Miles. She graduated from Guilford Central Schools in 1954 and moved to Norwich. Joanna was the executive secretary for the late Assemblyman Clarence D. Rappleyea, Jr., while he had a Norwich office. She also assisted her husband, Adolph Chiarino, at his insurance agency in Norwich. Joanna served on the Norwich Town Board and was very active in the formation and development of the Chenango County Child Care Council. She also loved to read, cook, and especially loved her dog, Lucky.

Joanna was predeceased by her parents; three husbands, Adolph Chiarino, Nelson Lowe, and Joseph Famolaro; brother, William Miles; and one great-granddaughter, Breanna Christian. She is survived by her two sons, Michael (Suzanne) Lowe, of Norwich and Kevin (Tamara) Lowe, of Vermont; daughter, Theresa (Anthony) Schulthies, of Coventry, NY; grandchildren, Jason Lowe, Julie (Jason) Gallant, Machelle (Aaron) Gunerard, Tyler Schulthies, and Jessica Pries; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; step-grandchildren, Shawn (Alison) Aikins and Robin (Doug Wheeler) Christian; sister, Janet Predmore; special friends, Bill and Robin Gross and Bob and Debbie Pries; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Joanna will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home, Norwich, NY, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Contributions in Joanna’s memory may be made to the Greater Norwich Foundation, 52 S.
