Jeffrey P. Chomyszak

December 29, 1962 — October 31, 2018

Jeffrey P. “Nipper” Chomyszak, 55, a Norwich native, passed away on Wednesday, October
31, 2018 surrounded by family and friends, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Syracuse NY, after battling complications following a motorcycle accident.

Born on December 29, 1962, in Norwich, Jeffrey was the son of John G. “Jerry” and Marjorie (Stark) Chomyszak, each of whom preceded him in death. He was a 1981 graduate of Norwich High School where he participated in the ski club, JV football, tennis, and he played tuba in the band. After graduation, Jeffrey began his college studies at Franklin Pierce University, in New Hampshire, and completed his studies at High Point University, in North Carolina, earning dual Bachelor’s of Science and Business degrees. After college he returned to Norwich and worked by his father’s side at the family owned business, Norwich Furniture. Jeffrey also worked in the food service industry for a number of years, and for NYS Assemblyman Clarence Rappleyea from “Rapp’s” Hayes Street office. He completed his career working in the telecommunication field as a site supervisor for Tellabs in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in NYC.

From an early age Jeffrey was fond of the outdoors. He was an accomplished skier and, as a high schooler, was a member of the National Ski Patrol and served as a patrol member at Labrador Mountain in Truxton, NY. Jeffrey was also an avid fisherman and hunter, and especially enjoyed spending summers at the family camp on the St. Lawrence River near Clayton, NY. Likewise, he loved to spend time with family and friends at his beloved childhood stomping grounds, the Lost Pond Club. He enjoyed the game of golf and sported a polished golf swing and a great tan. Later in life he enjoyed spending his winters in Florida. His love for travel and adventure was evident, taking multiple trips to Europe, South America, the Caribbean Islands and, of course, Canada.

Jeffrey will always be thought of as “Nipper,” a nickname coined by his mother Marjorie. In addition, he will be remembered by those who knew him well for the laughter and good times he brought to gatherings he attended. He was, quite literally, being humorous right up until his final hours of life.

Jeffrey is survived by his siblings F. Brent Chomyszak and his wife, Tanya, of Punta Gorda, FL, John B. Chomyszak and his wife, Loretta, of Liverpool, NY, and Pamela Chomyszak, of Sebastian, FL; nieces and nephews Daniel Chomyszak, Amanda Chomyszak, Callie Paine, and Shelli Topolski; his uncle and aunt Don and Linda Chomyszak, of Norwich; several cousins; and many close friends.

A time for family and friends to gather, share, and celebrate memories of Jeffrey’s life will be held at the Lost Pond Club, Turner St., Oxford, NY, on January 5, 2019, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Cats and dogs had a natural affinity for Jeffrey and were immediately drawn to him. Contributions in memory of Jeffrey may be made to the Chenango SPCA, 6160 County Road 32, in Norwich or to the Norwich Family YMCA, 68 North Broad St., Norwich, NY 13815.
