Hubert Church

Hubert S. Church, 91, of Earlville, passed away on February 15, 2017 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.

Born on May 2, 1925 in Tyner, Hubert was the son of the late Leon and Helen (Woodard) Church of Oxford. He was a graduate of the Oxford Academy and Central Schools class of 1942. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, then as a guard in Japan after World War II.

On December 29, 1951, he married Ann T. Tucker, who died in 1974. He worked at The Norwich Pharmacal Company, Norwich-Eaton and later Procter and Gamble Pharmaceuticals as a case sealer and later doing maintenance work. He was employed there for thirty years. Hubert was an avid golfer and will be fondly remembered for his dry wit and hearty laugh. He was dearly loved by his family - always faithful and never afraid to speak his mind.

Hubert is survived by his cherished partner Ruby Bartlett, of Earlville; and her family, his step-children, Tina Fowler and her husband Lloyd, of Georgetown, Diane Maruszak and her husband Marshall Cohen, of Farmville, VA, and Daniel Bartlett and his wife Penny Bartlett, of Oak Island, NC; grandchildren, Greg Maruszak and his wife Jan, of North Carolina, Brett Maruszak, Brandon Fowler, of Georgetown, and Jessica Clark, of Earlville; great-grandson Emmett Clark, of Earlville; his brother Cecil Church and his wife Irene Church, of Lansdale, PA; nephews Jim Kiff and Terry Kiff, of Sidney; and niece Lucille Markert, of St. Johns, FL.

A funeral service for Hubert will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Wilson Funeral Home, with Rev. David J. Spiegel, Sr., pastor, First Baptist Church of Norwich, will officiate. There will be no calling hours. Burial will occur at Riverview Cemetery in Oxford in the spring.
