Harold E. Alger

Harold E. Alger, Jr., 77, of Russell Springs, Kentucky, and formerly of Oxford, died on July 1, 2023.


Born on July 17, 1945, in Norwich, he was the son of the late Harold Sr. and Roma (Armstrong) Alger. He attended Oxford School before enlisting in the United States Navy and spent many years on a flight deck in France. While in the Navy, he was on a carrier that picked up Neil Armstrong when he landed in the Pacific Ocean. Following his honorable discharge, he became a lineman for IBW and was also a crane operator during the last ten years of his career. Harold retired in 2008 to Kentucky. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and loved his family.


He is survived by his sisters, Marta Whitehill and Sally (Danny) Morgan; children, Martin Alger and Harold Alger, III; grandchildren, Zackary (Laura) Alger, Jeffrey (Jessica) Tanner, and Ashley Alger; great-grandchildren, Jaden James Tanner and Charlotte Alger. He was predeceased by his wife, Billy Jo Alger and his brother-in-law, Ponch Whitehill.


Harold was always loved and will never be forgotten.
