“Gus” Stamatatos, 59, of Norwich, passed away on January 28, 2015 at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. with family by his side.
Born on February 16, 1955, in Kefelonia, Greece, Gus was the son of Stamatis and Anna (Kalogeras) Stamatatos. At the age of 14, Gus and his family moved to America. While in America Gus was hired in the restaurant field, which he continued for his entire life.
Gus and the love of his life, Maria Fernandez Stamatatos, were together for 32 wonderful years. Since 2005, Gus and his family owned and operated Gus’ Steakhouse in Norwich. He was a hard worker and took pleasure in owning a steakhouse with his family and serving the community.
In addition to his wife, Gus is survived by his children Alexandra and Kosta Stamatatos; mother Anna; brothers Napoleon (Sophia) and Andrea (Julie); and sisters Dia (Denny) Davies, Despina Stamatatos, and Elpida Stamatatos. He was predeceased by his father Stamatis and brother, Nicholas.
Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 31, 2015, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Gus’ life will take place at Gus’ Restaurant on Sunday, February 1, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. A private graveside service will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery on Monday, February 2.
