Gerald W. Rowe

Gerald Wesley “Jerry” Rowe, 95, lifetime resident of Norwich, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022 at home with his family by his side.

Jerry was born February 12, 1927 on Roweview Farm in Norwich, the son of Charles Wesley and Elsie (Phetteplace) Rowe. Jerry met his wife Agnes (Meyer) through the local 4-H clubs. On November 21, 1948 they married.

Jerry graduated from Norwich High School in 1945 at which time his grandfather bought him an English Draft horse. He bought the second one from Cornell University to make a team for farming. Jerry was a third-generation farmer on Roweview Farm, working with his father and later on with his two sons and a grandson. He enjoyed his neighborhood card games where they played pitch for over 60 years. Jerry was involved in many associations, including Eastern AI Breeder Association (Delegate Member), Agway, Dairymen’s League, Pamona Grange, Farm Bureau, Holstein Friesian Association, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County, Brown Swiss Association, and Evergreen Cemetery Association.

Jerry is survived by his children, Grace (Bohdan) Krawczuk, of West Seneca, NY, Katheryn (Philip) Inglis, of Milton, PA, Charles (Doreen) Rowe, of Norwich, Mary (Darryl) Traver, of Deland, FL, Robert (Sheryl) Rowe, of Norwich, and Barbara Jenne, of Sherburne; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and sister, Betty Wade, of Bainbridge, NY. Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Agnes, and sister, Beverly Laughlin.

Friends and family may call at White Store Church and Evergreen Cemetery (corner of White Store Road and Route 8) on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. A funeral service for Jerry will immediately follow. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery, White Store. A celebration of life will follow at the farm.
