Frances Zieno

Francesca (Arico) Zieno, 99, formerly of both Norwich and Sidney, NY, but more recently of Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2021, in Fairport.

“Fran” was born on March 3, 1922, in Gualtieri, Sicaminó, Sicily. She was the daughter of Nicola Arico and Maria Antonia (Calapa) Arico. She came to the United States in 1935 and attended the Norwich City Schools. In her adult years, Fran worked in the Norwich Knitting Mill, the Simmons Mattress Factory, in San Francisco, the Victory Supermarket, Paul Masson Winery, in California, and the Keith Clark Company, in Sidney, NY. Fran was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Sidney through most of her life, and was dedicated to the Rosary.

Fran had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and sewing, reading, cooking for those she loved, and traveling. The most important things in her life were her home, friends, and family.

Fran was predeceased by her parents; husband of 44 years, Emanuel “Zeke” Zieno; young son, Tommy; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Mario Chimento; brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Carmela Arico; father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Maria Francesca (Lauricella) Ziino. She is survived by her children, Thomas and Janet (Harris) Zieno, of Fairport, NY, and Maria Frances (Zieno) and Marcel Aebi, of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Joanna (Owen) Flynn, Stephanie Zieno, Vincent (Allison) Aebi, and Trevor (Alison) Aebi; great-grandchildren, Owen Flynn, Aiden Flynn, and Francesca Aebi; sisters-in-law, Cecelia Zieno and Jean Zieno; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.

Fran’s family would like to thank the staff at Fairport Baptist Homes for their loving care.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Fran will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Sacred Heart Church, in Sidney, NY, where the Rev. Bernard Osei Ampong, pastor, will officiate. Entombment will immediately follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery, in Norwich, NY. A private viewing will take place at the Wilson Funeral Home, in Norwich, on Thursday. Contributions in Fran’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, The American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.
