Edwin F. Gibson

Edwin F. Gibson passed away July 20, 2021. He was 93 years old. Edwin was born on April 2, 1928, the son of Dr. Edwin and Anna (Berry) Gibson. He grew up with his sister, Gloria, in Norwich. He served in the US Navy after graduating from Norwich High School. After serving, Edwin attended and graduated from Muhlenberg College.


Edwin married Christine A. Zink, in 1953. They lived near Syracuse, NY and had two children, Elizabeth and Edwin. In 1976, they moved to East Aurora, NY where they lived until retirement. They then moved to Fayetteville, NY, which was a short drive to their beloved cottage at Chenango Lake. Christine died in 2014.


Edwin and Christine had a lifelong connection to Norwich through their love of Chenango Lake. Summers were spent at the cottage. Edwin loved the lake and was active in the Chenango Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association. He enjoyed digging with the Wednesday group.


Edwin is survived by his children, Elizabeth Gibson (Neil Goldstein) of Belmont, MA, and Edwin Gibson (Helen) of Amherst, NY; grandchildren, Joseph Gibson, Charity Gibson Jalbert, Anna Goldstein Moyer, Lily Goldstein, and Isabelle Goldstein.


A graveside service for Edwin will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, where the Rev. Steve White, pastor, Emmanuel Episcopal Church, will officiate.
