Dorothy Magliocco

January 13, 1927 — February 19, 2017

Dorothy Elizabeth Coler Magliocco, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a brief illness and with family by her side.

Born January 13, 1927, Dorothy and her siblings were orphaned as young children. She worked at the Norwich Knitting Mills, later renamed Champion, over a five decade period beginning in the 1950s. She retired in 1994.

Dorothy was a loving wife to Louis Maricle for 45 years until his death. She later married Richard Magliocco, who survives. Dorothy and Richard were happily married for 21 years.

Dorothy would not obtain a driver’s license until she was 59 years old. Afterward, however, she was very fond of long rides with Richard in the country, and also with her dear friends. She was also active in her beautiful garden, and very much enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. With her friends, Dorothy would often travel to go shopping, dining for lunch, and to appointments of family or friends.

Dorothy was a talented knitter, and often crocheted mittens and hats. She would offer her creations as gifts for her family or as donations for the less fortunate. Some would be grateful to receive one of her beautiful Afghans, which were treasured by those to received them.

Dorothy was a witty, often smiling, loving, and generous person who took care of so many, and who will be truly missed.

In addition to her husband, Richard, Dorothy is survived by her children, Nancy Lawson and her husband, Dick, Bonnie Rivenburg and her husband, Larry, Robert Maricle and his partner, Terri, Donna Mumbalo and her partner, Mike; grandchildren Candy, Joseph, Kelly, Zack, Nicholas, Cody, Alysa, Nat, Tyler, Ben, and Jenna; great-grandchildren Logan, River, Peyton, Phin, Fisher, Emily, Ashley, and Bradley. Her sister-in-law, Lucy Conant, many nieces, nephews, and extended family also survive, as well as Dorothy’s dear friend, Nan Magistro. She was predeceased by all of her siblings.

A private graveside service for Dorothy will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in the spring.
