Donna M. Burton

Donna M. Burton, 73, a lifelong Norwich resident died on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital with family by her side.

Donna was born in Norwich on July 19, 1949, the daughter of Shirley and Concetta (Scafidi) VanPelt. She attended Norwich City Schools and graduated from Norwich High School. Donna spent a majority of her life as a child care provider in her home. She loved caring for people and will be fondly remembered as someone who went above and beyond to care for others in need. Donna enjoyed walking around town, was a Dallas Cowboy Fan, volunteered for 4-H helping children, volunteered at the St. Bartholomew’s Soup Kitchen, and loved tending to her many flowers on her porch.

Donna is survived by her daughter, Summer Smith, of Norwich; son, Brian (Kecia) Burton, of Norwich; grandchildren, Stephan Kuhn, Layla Burton, Kelsey Zornow, Emerson Burton, Cooper Burton, and Landen Zornow; brothers, Joe VanPelt, of Norwich, and Robert VanPelt, of Norwich, many cousins; and special friends, Julia Brightman and Jerry Nes. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Johnny VanPelt.

A memorial service for Donna will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Wilson Funeral Home, where Deacon Dale Grey, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
