Carl Johnson

Carl R. “Roy” Johnson, 93, of Guilford, NY, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Absolut Care Nursing Home, in Endicott.

Born on April 15, 1929, in Richmond, NY, Roy was the son of Carl and Julia (Telefsen) Johnson. He graduated from high school in 1947, then in April 1949, Roy moved to Guilford. With his brother, Kenneth, he operated a dairy farm until 1986. He was a member and director of the Rockdale Producers Coop. Roy was also a union carpenter for many years, having worked for Holloway & Associates, Tenden Construction, and Wakeman Construction, until his retirement in 1994. Roy was a very talented carpenter and could build anything from a dairy barn, to a house, or furniture.

On November 24, 1952, at the Mount Upton Methodist Church, Roy married Elsie (Iverson) Johnson. They would spend nearly seventy years in marriage together until Elsie’s death on January 27, 2022.

Roy is survived by his children, Eric (Marguerite) Johnson, of Castle Creek, NY, and Christine Johnson, of Albany, NY; grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Lindsey Johnson, Kedryn Govan, and Darian Govan; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Roy was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor Abildness, and brothers, Stanley and Kenneth.

A memorial service for Roy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday day, September 24, 2022, at the Wilson Funeral Home, in Norwich, NY. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will immediately follow at Sunset Cemetery, in Guilford. Contributions in Roy’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
