Arthur Powell

Arthur R. (“Art”) Powell, 59, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at his Pharsalia residence.

Art was born April 5, 1956 in Norwich. He was a lifelong area resident of Plymouth and Pharsalia, and was a graduate of Norwich High School. Art was a very talented mechanic, and was always tinkering. He especially loved visiting with family and friends and riding around the area with his beloved dog, Fred.

For 28 years Art worked as a truck driver and equipment operator for the Town of Plymouth Highway Department.

In 2009 Art married Carolyn Powell (Meyer), who survives. He was married to Linda Powell-Owens (Brown) from 1975-1999. In addition to his wife, former wife, and father, George Kolb, Art is also survived by his brother Keith and wife Denise Kolb of Earlville, NY, brother John and wife Lilit Kolb of New Berlin, NY, sister Mary and husband Roger Brown of New Berlin, NY, son Kevin Powell and wife Danya Samsel-Powell of Oxford, NY, son Michael and wife Krystal Powell of Norwich, NY, and daughter Jennifer McCarthy of Norwich NY. He is also survived by his step-children, Alison Monroe of Norwich, NY, Jim Towner of Rochester, NY, and Michelle and husband Brian Staebell of Rochester, NY. His ten surviving grandchildren are Devin and Alexa Powell, Logann Dolan, Jolei Powell, Taylor, Erin and Jordan McCarthy, and Logan, Lucas and Alex Monroe.

Art was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Kolb and his sister, Wendy Kolb.

A celebration of Art’s life will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3rd, 2015 at Art and Carolyn’s home located at 872 Center Road, South Plymouth.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Art’s name to a charity of your choice.
