Angelina Forlenzo

June 10, 1914 — April 9, 2013

Angelina Forlenzo, 98, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2013, at the Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.

Born June 10, 1914, in Brooklyn, NY, Angelina was the daughter of Gerard and Rosina Triano. Angelina married Donato Forlenzo, Sr., at St. Nicholas Church in Brooklyn. Donato predeceased Angelina on January 17, 1988.

Angelina worked for many years as a manager representative in the fur and jewelry departments for May’s Department Store in Levittown, NY, and was also considered by her family to be a “Rosie the Riveter” due to her work making fighter plane parts for Sperry Rand Corporation during World War II. Angelina also cared for her community, no matter where she lived. In Wantagh, Long Island, she was bestowed with an award for her work with children stricken by cerebral palsy. She also enjoyed crocheting as a hobby. Angelina also enjoyed many holidays speaking Italian with Frank Pizza’s mother. In the Norwich community, she volunteered in the libraries of the Norwich City Schools and cared for children. Angelina and her husband, Donato, loved to travel, often to the Caribbean and were regular Broadway theater goers, especially the operas.

Angelina is survived by her daughter, RoseMarie Pizza, of Norwich, and son, Donato Forlenzo, Jr., and his wife, Georgianna, Punta Gorda, FL.; a granddaughter Angela M. Perry, and her husband, Ryan, a grandson Joseph J. Pizza, and his wife, Heather, a brother, Joseph Triano and many nieces and nephews in New York on both sides of her family as well as several members of the Pizza family. Angelina was predeceased by a sister and six brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Angelina will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at St. Bartholomew’s Church where Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday from 9 – 11 AM, prior to the service.
